Geopolitical tensions around the world are growing. While conflict remains endemic in the middle East, the war in Ukraine has shattered the illusion of perpetual peace in Europe. Tensions are growing also between the USA and China since China, emboldened by its staggering economic success, has started to reassert its military power while the USA is unwilling to concede ground. Amid this turmoil, it is important to understand what people think and feel about issues like war, defense, security, rearmament, military spending, and conscription. The Observatory of Public Opinion and War (OPOW) is a team of scholars from various universities who conduct research on these important topics. OPOW's research has a strong theoretical emphasis, is multidisciplinary, and employs cutting-edge methods such as machine learning and AI. Thanks to its extensive collaborations with think thanks, NGOs, and with government institutions, OPOW aims at informing practitioners, policy makers, and the general public. OPOW believes that a systematic academic enquiry into what people think about war and related issues is vital to strive for peace and justice within the contemporary geopolitical environment.
